New Delhi: India has the dubious distinction of being the world’s diabetes capital. A recently released Landmarc study data shows that diabetes and its complications are largely prevalent in India. According to the International Diabetes Federation, 72 million cases of diabetes were reported in India in 2017 and it is estimated that the number will touch 134 million by 2025. Currently, every seven seconds someone is estimated to die from diabetes or its complications, with 50% of those deaths occurring under the age of 60 years. The most alarming thing is that about one in every two Indians living with diabetes is unaware of their condition according to a study by PHFI and MDRF. It is also known that there are over 50% undiagnosed cases in India.
