New Delhi: Western medical research has focused upon Diabetes as a physical disorder, requiring only physical modalities of intervention. Western studies have recommended exercise of moderate intensity, along with adoption of a regular diet and insulin dosage to manage diabetes and its complications.

Research in India has recognized diabetes as a psychosomatic disorder whose causative factors include sedentary habits, physical, emotional and mental stress. Many studies have confirmed that the practice of Yoga can rejuvenate the insulin producing cells in the pancreas in diabetes of both types.
