New Delhi: Vigyan Prasar in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is organizing a two-day national seminar on Women Leadership in Science & Technology: Opportunity & Challenges; on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2017.

During the seminar, discussions will be held on opportunities and challenges for professionally qualified women and scientists to contribute to the landscape of insights on this area. The seminar will dedicate its efforts to the spirit of excellence demonstrated by women in science, technology and biotechnology. The seminar will be organized during the International Women’s Day on 8th & 9th of March, 2017 in New Delhi to deliberate on leadership in S&T, life science and biotechnology including various other options for professionally qualified women.

The seminar will be organized during the International Women’s Day on 8th & 9th of March, 2017 in New Delhi to deliberate on leadership in S&T, life science and biotechnology including various other options for professionally qualified women. In the seminar, qualified women scientists, entrepreneurs engaged in S&T, biotechnologists will highlight opportunities and challenges faced by women in their career including academics, research, entrepreneurship development and gender specific issues in science. The seminar will be attended by young scientists, researchers, college students and other stakeholders.

The areas of discussions during the seminar would be as follows:-

1. Opportunities and Challenges in Science and Technology in Research and Academics Academic and Research areas offer a fertile ground for opportunities for women in science. At the same time there are several challenges they face. Women also bring a unique perspective to the sector. The session will deliberate on these issues.

2. Opportunities and Challenges in Science and Technology in Start-ups and Entrepreneurship Start-ups and entrepreneurship offer newer challenges and opportunities for women. These need a country / area / sector / specific perspective consolidation.

3. Science and Media Advocacy The last decade has seen a rise in science communication, media and advocacy. They offer flexible career opportunities for women and represent a robust facet of science advocacy. Deliberations in this session will reflect on issues faced by women in science media, advocacy and engaging with civil societies in S&T in promoting informed S&T choices.

4. Gender Aspects in Science Policy Science & Technology policy in India needs mainstream gender and address specific issues. This needs more active participation of women in policy framing.

5. Improving the Quality of lives of Women through S&T Science and Technology has made huge contributions

These would be duly highlighted. The seminar will be attended by esteemed speakers from different fields of science & technology of the country
