Giving Back Life: How AMTZ’s Artificial Limb Centre Is changing lives across India

New Delhi: From a young student who returned to school after receiving a prosthetic leg, to an adult accident survivor who resumed his business with renewed confidence—the Artificial Limb Centre’s (ALC) interventions have rewritten stories of hope and self-reliance across India’s cities and villages.

Blending compassion with cutting-edge medical technology to build an inclusive and accessible India, the Artificial Limb Centre (ALC) at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is redefining the landscape of prosthetic and orthotic care. Having already provided thousands of customized assistive devices to persons with disabilities nationwide, the Centre is now set to significantly scale its mission in the coming years. This ambitious expansion aims to promote healthcare equity and transform the landscape of inclusive healthcare in India.

Emerging as a model institution dedicated to restoring mobility and dignity for persons with disabilities (PwDs), the Centre not only manufactures assistive devices but also delivers them across the country through numerous outreach and assistive aid camps.

“They did not just give me an artificial leg; they gave me back my life,” said one beneficiary, echoing the Centre’s transformative impact.

Emphasizing the Centre’s philosophy of redefining accessibility, Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Founder, CEO, and Managing Director, AMTZ, said, “At ALC, we do not just help in restoring limbs—we restore lives, confidence, and dignity. A dedicated team of 18 qualified professionals—including prosthetists, orthotists, engineers, and rehabilitation specialists—operate in-house manufacturing units to design and produce tailor-made solutions for each beneficiary. “We don’t just create limbs; we restore dreams,” added Ms. Archana Sahani, a senior prosthetist at ALC, reflecting the Centre’s deeply human-centric approach.

In addition to its in-house facilities, the Artificial Limb Centre (ALC) has introduced Mobile Artificial Limb Services, bringing prosthetic and orthotic care directly to the doorsteps of persons with disabilities. Through these outreach initiatives, beneficiaries in remote and underserved areas can access personalized assessments, fittings, and follow-up services without the need to travel long distances. This door-to-door approach ensures that high-quality assistive devices reach those who need them most, reinforcing ALC’s commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and healthcare equity across India.

Going beyond human beings, the Centre has also pioneered pet prosthesis development, helping injured or amputated animals regain mobility. Through collaborations with veterinarians and animal welfare organizations, ALC designs specialized devices that restore freedom of movement for pets—extending inclusivity beyond human rehabilitation.
