C-CAMP–anchored India AMR Innovation Hub announced as the innovation arm of India’s National Action Plan on AMR (NAP 2.0)

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MoHFW) unveiled India’s National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance NAP 2.0 in New Delhi on 18th Nov 2025 in presence of Union Health Minister, J.P. Nadda, Prof A.K. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to Govt of India, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secy. Department of Health Research, & DG, Indian Council of Medical Research, and other national stakeholders.

At the announcement, India AMR Innovation Hub (IAIH) anchored by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), Bengaluru, has been positioned as the innovation arm of NAP 2.0 on AMR  to mobilise deep-science solutions that address AMR challenges across Human Health, Agri-Animal Health and Environment (One Health) in the Indian context, in the areas of preventatives, therapeutics, diagnostics, detection, screening, monitoring, tools for surveillance etc.

Conceived under the leadership of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India and anchored by C-CAMP, IAIH is a convergent, collaborative platform of key national and international stakeholders towards reducing the AMR burden in India, through deeper participation in the national efforts to tackle this global health challenge, thereby contributing to the global fight against AMR.

Prof A. K. Sood, PSA, said at the NAP 2.0 release by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at New Delhi on 18th Nov 2025, “My office is  supporting the  NAP 2.0, through the IAIH, towards cutting-edge science and indigenous innovations that are contextual, low-resource and culturally appropriate to bring in the sea change that is required in transforming the public perception of antimicrobial resistance and the urgency of the crisis looming before us.”

“IAIH that was officially launched in 2021, has already convened multiple global and national stakeholders, mobilised resources and networks, and has been nurturing multiple breakthrough innovations across the one health domain, many of which are showing great promise during on-field testing and deployment. This is clear demonstrable proof that indigenous solutions are more affordable, accessible and available leading to better health and implementation outcomes by being a better fit locally,” added Prof. Sood. 

Dr Taslimarif Saiyed, Director-CEO of C-CAMP and Vice-Chair, IAIH said, “C-CAMP anchored IAIH is on a mission to enable innovative solutions addressing prioritised AMR challenges in India and beyond. It aims to contribute towards reducing the projected AMR mortality rates in India through specific interventions, bending the AMR curve in India and beyond through identification and integration of cutting-edge science from bench to bedside, and enhancing investments in emerging solutions to tackle AMR.”

“It currently has a portfolio of over 60 AMR innovations that harness the most cutting-edge science for addressing the challenges of AMR. We have been able to connect with ~15 Govt of India bodies along with ~25 national and global Academia, Industry, Philanthropic and not-for-profit organisations across the One Health spectrum, to boost consolidation and fast-tracking national efforts against AMR for a larger impact on global health. Building on the release of NAP 2.0 we look forward to welcoming more partners and stakeholders in our fold,” added Dr Saiyed.
