The invitation-only roundtable on 31 July will examine how India’s evolving Free Trade Agreement (FTA) landscape can strengthen the country’s medical technology ecosystem through investment, regulatory cooperation, resilient supply chains and improved patient access.
The Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI) will convene an invitation-only roundtable on 31 July 2026, bringing together senior policymakers, diplomats, regulators, trade experts and industry leaders to examine how India’s evolving Free Trade Agreement (FTA) framework can strengthen the country’s medical technology ecosystem and improve access to advanced healthcare technologies.
The roundtable, titled “FTA Frameworks in an Evolving Global Order: Shaping the Healthcare Roadmap,” comes at a time when India is expanding its network of international trade agreements. According to MTaI, these developments present an opportunity to strengthen India’s position as a trusted global MedTech partner while encouraging investment, technology collaboration and resilient healthcare supply chains.
Organised as part of MTaI’s tenth anniversary initiatives, the closed-door dialogue will focus on the role of modern FTAs in advancing investment, technology partnerships, regulatory cooperation and advanced manufacturing within the healthcare sector.
The discussions are expected to examine how trade agreements can support the effective implementation of tariff provisions through timely government notifications, simplified customs procedures and clearer product classification systems that enable companies to realise FTA benefits more efficiently.
Participants will also deliberate on reducing non-tariff barriers, recognising that regulatory differences often present greater challenges to cross-border trade than tariffs themselves. The dialogue will further explore mechanisms to strengthen regulatory cooperation, encourage foreign direct investment (FDI), facilitate technology transfer, improve supply chain resilience and promote mobility of skilled professionals.
The roundtable aims to develop practical policy recommendations that support India’s ambition to become a globally competitive destination for medical technology innovation, manufacturing and research while enhancing patient access to advanced healthcare solutions.
“Trade policy and healthcare policy are increasingly inseparable. A well-designed FTA framework can accelerate technology transfer, deepen local manufacturing and bring the latest medical innovations to Indian patients faster. This roundtable is an opportunity to translate that shared vision into practical, implementable recommendations for policymakers,” said Pavan Choudary, Chairman, MTaI.
The discussions are also expected to consider institutional mechanisms such as joint monitoring committees, regulator-to-regulator engagement and dedicated problem-solving platforms that can strengthen implementation of trade agreements and improve investor confidence.
MTaI said the dialogue reflects its decade-long engagement with policymakers, regulators and healthcare stakeholders in advancing a policy environment that supports innovation, ease of doing business and equitable patient access to medical technologies in India.
