New Delhi: Gut Health Clinic Private Limited, a healthcare startup specialising in outpatient gastroenterology, hepatology, and metabolic care, has raised $1 million (approximately INR 9 crore) in seed funding.
The round was backed by a curated group of world-renowned specialists and veteran operators across finance, technology, and healthcare. Built around a protocol-driven approach that prioritises early diagnosis and long-term disease management over episodic hospital-led care, the company began with an outpatient and day-care focus and is now expanding by launching centres within hospitals.
The capital will be used to establish new centres, strengthen clinical infrastructure, and expand diagnostic capabilities. By building advanced patient engagement systems and standardising care protocols, the company aims to improve long-term management of gastrointestinal & liver diseases, targeting a $197 billion preventive healthcare market that remains underserved by largely unorganised, split between high-cost hospital departments and standalone, unscalable clinics.
“This funding allows us to strengthen the clinical systems required to deliver consistent, high-quality outpatient care at scale,” said Dr Akshat Kumar, Founder and CEO of Gut Clinic. We are not looking to replace hospitals, but to complement them by managing chronic and preventive gastro, liver and metabolic conditions more effectively outside acute settings. With gastrointestinal disorders on the rise, liver disease among the leading causes of mortality, and fatty liver affecting nearly one in three Indians, it is critical to bring our world-class clinicians closer to patients’ homes”
Gut Clinic was established to bring specialised gastroenterology, liver, and metabolic care closer to patients at the neighbourhood level. The startup is led by CEO Dr. Akshat Kumar, a US-certified physician, Wharton MBA, and former leader of McKinsey’s global clinical operations practice. It is guided by a distinguished Board of Advisors that includes B.C. Roy Awardee Dr Ajay Kumar, Chairman, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Pan Max India; Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals; and world-renowned Pancreatologist Dr Suresh Chari, ensuring strong clinical governance and global best practices. The founding team also includes Dr. Manav Wadhawan, Chief Strategy and Medical Officer, who brings deep expertise in hepatology and metabolic health.
Currently operating in the Delhi NCR region, the company plans to expand to Chandigarh, Punjab and other parts of Northern India, with a target of establishing over 20 centres in the near-medium term and then expanding Pan India. The broader aim is to build India’s largest gastro, liver and metabolic health platform to significantly improve patient outcomes and experience of care.
