Metropolis expands in Africa with new diagnostic lab in Nairobi

The new 6000-square-foot facility aims to process up to 35,000 to 40,000 samples monthly, enhancing diagnostic services across Kenya and East Africa

New Delhi: Metropolis Star Lab Kenya Limited has launched a Regional Reference Laboratory in Nairobi, Kenya. With over a decade of service in Kenya, this new lab enhances Metropolis’ ability to offer advanced diagnostic services to the community.
The 6000-square-foot facility can process 35,000 to 40,000 samples per month, covering specialties like haematology, microbiology, molecular biology, special chemistry, immunology, histology, and cytology.
Commenting on the launch, Surendran Chemmenkotil, CEO of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, stated, “The opening of our regional reference lab in Kenya is part of Metropolis Healthcare’s strategic expansion plan to extend its high-quality diagnostic services to more regions in India as well as international countries where our brand is highly regarded. Now, with the launch of our new and largest regional reference lab, we look forward to taking the baton from our existing branches and sharing the responsibility of providing world-class diagnostic testing services to the citizens of Kenya.”

The inauguration was led by Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards, Government of Kenya. Distinguished guests included Rohit Vadhwana, Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of India; Dr. Walter Ongeti, CEO of KENAS; Patricia Aruwa, Deputy Director of Industries, Business Environment, and Private Sector Development at the State Department for Industrialization; and Florence Wangui and Becky Kim, Board Members of the Kenya Investment Authority. Metropolis’ senior management, including Avadhut Joshi, Chief Business Development Officer, and Iqbal Ahmed, AVP – Business & Operations (East Africa), also attended.
