PHDCCI hosts conference emphasizing GMP compliance and PTUAS for pharmaceutical quality

New Delhi: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) hosted a pivotal National Conference on Enhancing Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. 
The conference saw significant participation from senior officials from the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the Police Department, SIDBI, MSME DFO, Solan, and DRDA, alongside industry leaders and stakeholders.
Palka Sahni, IAS, Joint Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, was the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, she emphasized the crucial role of adhering to GMP guidelines. She noted that strict compliance ensures consistency in production processes, minimizes contamination risks, and safeguards public health. Sahni highlighted the Pharmaceutical Technology Up-gradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS) as vital for providing financial support and incentives to manufacturers adopting advanced technologies to improve their capabilities.
Sahni underscored that maintaining the safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceutical products is essential for global competitiveness. The session on GMP compliance with international standards was a focal point, stressing its importance in ensuring that Indian pharmaceutical products meet global benchmarks.
Dr. Jatinder Singh, Assistant Secretary General of PHDCCI, stated that GMP guidelines are a universal benchmark essential for global competition. He urged industries to implement GMP within their systems. The conference also featured Ms. Ilma Afroz, Superintendent of Police (SP) Baddi, who addressed the conference and attended a crucial meeting with industry stakeholders in the Baddi, Barotiwala, and Nalagarh (BBN) area. The meeting focused on industrial development, law and order, and sustainable manufacturing practices in the region.
Ajay Kumar Yadav, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Project Director (DRDA), promised full support from the department to the industry. Two important technical sessions covered “Navigating Legal Aspects: Responsibilities and Compliance” and “Foundations of GMP: Principles and Practices and Challenges: Strategies and Solutions,” featuring key stakeholders as panelists.
The event concluded with a consensus on the essential role of GMP and PTUAS in promoting pharmaceutical quality and innovation. Stakeholders pledged to maintain the highest manufacturing standards and utilize government schemes for improvement. Over 100 participants attended the conference, including pharmaceutical MSMEs, startups, prospective entrepreneurs, and notable industry figures. The event was backed by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, and the Himachal Drug Manufacturers Association as an Association Partner.
