Visakhapatnam: ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is an international standards organization. Over 12,000 standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance health and safety, strengthen market access and trade, and build confidence in the end user of Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices.

Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone is an eco-system where the entire gamut of medical device manufacturing is present from innovation to manufacturing and testing. In a new development, bridging these two, AMTZ has partnered with ASTM international (USA).

Speaking on the occasion Dr Jitendar Sharma, MD & CEO, AMTZ said “Standards play a very important role in any manufacturing eco system and attains larger importance in the field of manufacturing medical devices. In this context, the partnership between ASTM international and AMTZ attains significance and would be beneficial for medical device manufacturers and users in Andhra Pradesh as well as across the country”.

This partnership would not only improve the knowledge base of both ASTM International and AMTZ but would also promote the knowledge of ASTM standards, increase international expert input into the development of ASTM standards to enhance technical capacity within India by sharing information about ASTM procedures, tools, standards and services. This partnership would also lead to increased application of ASTM standards and services in medical and surgical device manufacturing, facilitate distribution of routine updates on medical device related ASTM standards and standards development activities.

There would be a increase in technical capacity by conducting virtual training sessions, supporting efforts by AMTZ staffs/representatives to introduce revisions and proposals to ASTM Technical Committees and arrange ASTM staff guidance to AMTZ representatives on the application of ASTM’s process and tools.
