New Delhi: Merck has announced the successful strategic move of its Healthcare Research & Development (R&D) India Hub to a new, state-of-the-art office at the Bagmane Solarium City, a premium business park in Whitefield, Bangalore.
Spanning expansive, thoughtfully designed spaces, the new office has a significantly larger footprint to accommodate an expanded workforce and prioritizes collaboration, inclusivity, employee experience and sustainability; all while adhering to gold standards with ergonomic workstations, smart technology, and future-ready global design. Formerly based in Electronic City, Software Park, the transition marks a significant milestone in Merck’s long-term commitment to India as a strategic hub for global healthcare innovation, advanced research, and scientific excellence.
Commenting on the strategic move, Suneela Thatte, Vice President and Head, Healthcare R&D India, Merck, said, “India plays a vital role as Merck’s fourth-largest global workforce hub- after Germany, the US and China- with unmatched operational excellence and technical expertise. Our excellent, specialized scientific talent makes India pivotal to Merck’s global Healthcare R&D strategy. As India emerges as an innovation-led nation, we are strategically harnessing these developments to propel Merck’s sustained growth in the years ahead.”
Launched in 2022 as the Merck India R&D Excellence Centre, the Merck Healthcare R&D Hub has scaled remarkably in headcount and capabilities across R&D domains. The hub now supports global R&D functions including Regulatory Affairs, R&D Quality & Risk Management, Regulatory Quality Operations, Drug Safety & Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Operations, Portfolio Strategy & Management, and multiple sub-functions, in addition to serving as the Centre of Excellence for Scientific Communications, Medical Writing, Project Management and Biostatistics teams.
This growth fuels a future-forward strategy in India—leveraging strong leadership foundations, robust talent footprint, academia and external partnerships, evolution into a true innovation hub, and advances in data, digital landscapes, and pharma technology—compellingly justifying our strategic move to a larger, future-ready office space.
“Our new office signals Merck’s unwavering confidence in India’s world-class scientific talent and our resolute commitment to cultivating an innovation-driven, collaborative ecosystem. Over the last four years, we’ve transformed from an excellence centre into a robust R&D hub—and our momentum surges forward with this move, as we’ll further solidify Merck Healthcare R&D India’s pivotal role in powering our global pipeline,” added Suneela Thatte.
In addition to this new, larger R&D Hub headquarters in Bangalore, the team continues to maintain and fortify its presence with a dedicated Hyderabad site and a footprint in our Merck Mumbai office.  The new office inauguration in Bangalore will herald a vibrant era of growth, collaboration, and sustained R&D momentum.
