Workshop on research methods for bioscience students on 5-7 September

New Delhi: Research is inevitable to all spheres of human development. It has relevance in all sciences and health disciplines. It involves a systematic investigation, or a critical and careful examination of information or experimentation in order to find the facts or modify conclusions in the light of newly discovered empirical facts.

As a part of its educational training programme, the National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) will be conducting a three-day intensive Workshop on Research Methods on 5-7 September 2018. While the deadline for application is 15 August 2018, the deadline for submission of the registration fee is 7 days after confirmation.

This workshop is useful for MD, MBBS, MSc, MTech, PhD students. The workshop consists of didactic lectures followed by demonstrations and hands-on experience on the topics being covered.

Course content includes Descriptive Studies such as case reports, case series, cross-sectional studies etc; Analytical Study Designs: Case-control, Cohort studies etc; Introduction to Ethical Issues; Experimental studies: RCT, field trial, clinical trials; Sampling methods and sample size determination; Data Entry and Management: Database creation, data entry, data manipulation/ transformation and importing external databases; Descriptive Statistics: Measures of central tendency & dispersion with its calculation reporting frequencies, graphical representation of data etc.; Test of Significance: Parametric Tests and Non-parametric Tests Correlation and Regression; Epidemiological tests.

The NIOH is a premier national institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India, endeavourer of research on occupational and environmental health to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable work environment and living, through multidisciplinary approach encompassing epidemiological studies, experimental studies, ergonomics and intervention technologies, education, service and related activities, primarily based on national priorities and needs.
