SSII MantraM “Made in India” surgical robot yatra reaches Surat, Gujarat

New Delhi: After an impactful series of showcases across Maharashtra, SS Innovations International, the makers of India’s first indigenously developed surgical robotic system, marked a key milestone in its nationwide journey as the SSII MantraM ‘Made-in-India’ Surgical Robot Yatra arrived at Icon Hospital, Surat, marking a significant landmark in its Gujarat chapter.

As part of its mission to democratize access to advanced healthcare, SS Innovations International brought the state-of-the-art SSII MantraM unit to students, educators, and residents.

The Surat chapter of the Yatra fostered SSII’s vision to democratize access to advanced surgical care by offering doctors, medical students, and healthcare professionals a first-hand experience conducted within the state-of-the-art MantraM Mobile Simulation Bus. The immersive experience allowed doctors, surgeons, and medical students to experience the cutting-edge capabilities of the Mantra 3.0 surgical robotic platform, India’s indigenous innovation in surgical robotics. The initiative went beyond engaging the medical community; it provided first-hand exposure to India’s leadership in robotic surgery, inspiring the next generation and reaffirming SSII’s commitment to advancing global healthcare through proudly home-grown innovation. The program featured live demonstrations and expert training sessions, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore how robotic-assisted surgery is redefining precision, safety, and accessibility in modern surgical care.

Built on a BharatBenz 1824 chassis, the MantraM unit weighs 18,500 kg and measures 11.9m (L) x 2.59m (W) x 3.49m (H). The fully modified vehicle, excluding the robotic system, costs approximately INR 1.3 Crores. The bus has been custom-engineered by SSII, featuring a reinforced base, actuator-based patient-side carts, and locking systems to ensure stability and calibration of the robotic arms. Its expandable cabin provides adequate space for surgical teams, while air suspension, air conditioning (maintained at 21°C ± 3°C and 55% RH), and EMI/EMC compliance protect the sensitive electronics and maintain surgical integrity.

Designed for remote and underserved areas, MantraM includes backup power systems (5 kVA onboard generators, external compatibility), high-speed telecom infrastructure, and research-backed satellite connectivity for future-ready telesurgery. A 380-litre fuel tank supports long-distance travel. The unit also includes a dedicated driver’s cabin, multiple access points, and a special ramp for safe equipment movement.
