The National Health Authority says the QR-based service is now available across 30,800 healthcare facilities in 756 districts, with nearly four lakh registrations recorded daily.
The National Health Authority (NHA) has reported more than 25 crore outpatient department (OPD) registration transactions through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA)-based Scan and Register service, marking a major scale-up of the digital registration system under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Launched in October 2022 and earlier known as Scan and Share, the service allows patients to register for an OPD visit by scanning a QR code displayed at participating healthcare facilities using an ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record application.
With the patient’s consent, relevant ABHA profile details are shared with the healthcare facility to complete registration digitally, reducing the need to manually enter demographic information at registration counters.
According to the NHA, Scan and Register is now operational across 30,800 healthcare facilities in 756 districts across all 36 States and Union Territories. The network includes 24,323 public healthcare facilities and 6,481 private facilities.
The Authority said nearly four lakh OPD registrations are being processed through the service each day.
Bihar has recorded the largest number of Scan and Register transactions at more than 7.30 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 4.09 crore, Andhra Pradesh at 3.38 crore and Jammu & Kashmir at 1.39 crore.
Among government healthcare institutions, AIIMS New Delhi has recorded more than 54.29 lakh registrations, followed by AIIMS Bhopal with 29.10 lakh, AIIMS Bhubaneswar with 23.93 lakh, AIIMS Patna with 19.62 lakh and AIIMS Raipur with 18.63 lakh.
The service has been deployed across institutions including AIIMS facilities, Central and State government hospitals, medical colleges, district and sub-district hospitals, community health centres, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation hospitals, railway hospitals, trust hospitals and private healthcare facilities.
Scan and Register also forms part of the broader ABDM infrastructure intended to facilitate interoperable digital healthcare services. Patients using an ABHA can access and share linked digital health records through compatible digital health applications, subject to consent.
The latest figures represent a substantial expansion from earlier stages of the programme. In February 2024, the government had reported two crore registrations through the service, followed by three crore registrations in June 2024 and four crore registrations in August 2024.
The increase to 25 crore transactions indicates the growing operational scale of QR-based digital registration within India’s healthcare system, although the transaction figure should not be interpreted as the number of unique patients using the service.
