New Delhi: The American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Gurugram has successfully treated a 46-year-old male patient with inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue using a new chemotherapy protocol.
The patient, from West Bengal, had a long history of tobacco chewing and presented with a painful, lobulated mass on the right side of his tongue. He struggled with severe symptoms, including difficulty swallowing and speaking, and had experienced recurrent ulcers over the past eight months that worsened over time. After multiple failed treatments for recurrent ulcers, his condition worsened, leading to a diagnosis of advanced tongue cancer.
After a thorough clinical examination and biopsy confirmed the cancer diagnosis, the patient was deemed inoperable due to the advanced stage of the disease. He was referred to the Department of Medical Oncology at AOI Gurugram, where doctors developed a customized chemotherapy regimen designed specifically to address his needs. This personalized approach resulted in marked improvements in the patient’s ability to swallow and speak, significantly enhancing his quality of life.
Harish Trivedi, CEO of CTSI-South Asia, highlighted, “This successful treatment highlights the advancements we are making in Cancer Care through innovative chemotherapy protocols. Our commitment at AOI is to ensure that cutting-edge treatments are accessible and effective, especially for patients with complex cases like this. The successful outcome at AOI Gurugram emphasizes the importance of personalized treatment plans and our ongoing efforts to enhance Cancer Care across South Asia.”
Dr. Amit Dhawan, Regional Chief Operating Officer of AOI Gurugram, noted “Our approach not only improved the patient’s quality of life but also demonstrated that effective cancer care can be both advanced and cost-effective. At AOI Gurugram, we are dedicated to creating affordable, high-quality treatment options that support our patients’ well-being while addressing the financial challenges often associated with Cancer Care.”
Dr. (Brig) A.K. Dhar, Medical Oncologist at AOI Gurugram, reflected on the clinical outcomes: “This case exemplifies how tailored chemotherapy can significantly impact patients with otherwise inoperable cancers. By adapting our treatment protocols to fit the individual needs of the patient, we were able to achieve a positive outcome and enhance his quality of life. This experience reinforces the need for continued innovation in treatment strategies and highlights our commitment to providing comprehensive and effective Cancer Care. Developing more such protocols will be crucial in offering financial protection and better outcomes for cancer patients in India.”
