High powered committee constituted for ‘Transformation for Indian Agriculture’

New Delhi: The union government has constituted a high power committee to discuss measures for transformation of agriculture and raising farmers’ income besides looking into rural development, water conservation, and its proper use among other issues.

The chief ministers of Karnataka, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, UP, MP and Union Minister of Agriculture, RD & Panchayati Raj to be the Members. Dr Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog would be the Member Secretary of the high power committee

The composition of the committee includes Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, Maharashtra who will be the Convenor. Other powerful members include Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister, Karnataka; Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana; Pema Khandu, Chief Minster, Arunachal Pradesh; Vijay Rupani, Chief Minster, Gujarat; Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh; Kamal Nath, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh; and Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister, Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchyati Raj. Dr Ramesh Chand, Member NITI Aayog will function as the Member-Secretary of the committee.

The committee that would submit its report in two months, will suggest modalities for adoption and time-bound implementation of agriculture sector reforms.

Among the major planks of  NDA Government led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the decision to constitute the committee is in keeping with his promises and subsequent to the deliberations of Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog
