New Delhi: As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Medanta reaffirms its commitment to women’s health and empowerment with the second edition of its annual women’s conclave – Medanta Shakti’25.
This platform honours and celebrates women who have made remarkable strides in their respective fields while making meaningful contributions to society. This year, the conclave recognized women with exceptional work across 8 categories, celebrating excellence in leadership, governance, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and social impact. The honourees demonstrated outstanding dedication, resilience, and innovation in their domains.
Notable awardees included Renu Bhatia, Chairperson, Haryana State Commission for Women; Dr. Shyama Gupta, CMO, Supreme Court & Haryana State Commission for Women; Charu Bali, ADGP Haryana; Dr. Mahima Bakshi, Women & Child Wellness Expert; and Kriti Raheja, Lifestyle Content Creator. Their achievements reflect the growing influence of women across diverse sectors, reinforcing the importance of recognizing and supporting their contributions to society.
Among the distinguished guests and facilitators were eminent doctors from Medanta, including Dr Naresh Trehan and Dr Preeti Rastogi. The event also included dance performances, and a panel discussion on – “Balancing Career and Family – Choices for women reproductive health”
Highlighting the increasing prevalence of late pregnancies and ways to manage associated risks, Dr. Preeti Rastogi, Director, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Medanta, Gurugram, stated, “With more women prioritizing career and financial stability, pregnancies in the late 30s and 40s have become more common. The fertility naturally declines with age—by 35 and quickly after 40, reducing the chances of conceiving, increasing the risk of miscarriage to 40%, compared to less than 15% in the 20s. Women in their late 30s are also more prone to develop conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, which can endanger both mother and child. Additionally, the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome in children increases—from 1 in 350 at age 35 to 1 in 100 by 40.1 Given these risks, it is crucial for women considering late pregnancies to seek early guidance from a gynecologist, who can help them make informed choices and ensure a healthier pregnancy journey.”
She added, “To mitigate these risks, proactive measures like egg freezing allow women to preserve their fertility, offering greater flexibility in family planning. The procedure involves retrieving and freezing eggs at a younger age, ideally before the mid-30s, to improve future pregnancy success rates. Over the years, egg freezing has shown promising results, with a good success rate for eggs stored between the ages of 30-35, yielding better outcomes when done earlier. Experts recommend using frozen eggs within 10 years for optimal results. This provides a reliable option for conception later in life. Consulting a gynaecologist or fertility specialist early empowers women to make informed decisions that align with their career and family goals.”
Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, emphasized the vital role of women in shaping society, stating, “Women are the backbone of a progressive society, balancing personal and professional responsibilities while making critical life decisions. With career aspirations and personal choices leading to delayed pregnancies, it is essential to be aware of the associated health risks. Through this annual conclave, Medanta reaffirms its commitment to empowering women by recognizing their achievements, addressing key health concerns, and celebrating their invaluable contributions across various sectors.”
Medanta believes in fostering an environment of gender equality and empowerment, where women are encouraged to excel and lead in every aspect of life. Through initiatives like “Medanta Shakti’25”, the organization reaffirms its commitment to championing the cause of women’s empowerment and celebrating their achievements.
