New Delhi: Tata Elxsi has officially launched its cutting-edge ‘xG-Force’ lab in Bengaluru, marking a significant leap in 5G technology and its applications. This new facility is designed to accelerate the innovation and deployment of 5G solutions across multiple sectors, including transportation, healthcare, smart manufacturing, media, and communication.
The xG-Force lab was inaugurated by Manoj Raghavan, MD & CEO of Tata Elxsi, and Kevin Plunkett, Vice President of Cloud Services at Boost Mobile, formerly DISH Wireless. Boost Mobile is set to be the first beneficiary of the lab’s advanced offerings, underscoring a major milestone in the partnership between Tata Elxsi and the telecom provider.
Manoj Raghavan emphasized, “The xG-Force lab is a vital force multiplier for our customers, providing a platform to explore, validate, and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies. By integrating our expertise in digital engineering, automation, AI, and application with industry-specific domains, we develop transformative solutions for consumers and enterprises.”
The xG-Force lab aims to cut deployment costs and operational expenses (OPEX) by around 40%, offering twice the efficiency compared to conventional solutions. It also promises to reduce time-to-market by nearly 40-60% through its ready infrastructure and extensive expertise. The facility will provide a suite of vertical applications ready for deployment, supported by a robust global partner ecosystem.
As the systems integrator for this initiative, Tata Elxsi will leverage its innovative platforms—Neuron for autonomous networks, TETHER for connected vehicles, TEngage for digital health, and TEDAx for big data engineering—to develop and integrate 5G applications. The lab is expected to enable new revenue streams and support data-driven innovations while driving the subscription economy.
Kevin Plunkett of Boost Mobile expressed, “We are excited to see this lab facilitate innovative 5G use cases and help our network plans in the United States. This lab, similar to EchoStar’s Open RAN Center for Integration and Deployment (ORCID) in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is crucial to driving innovation and setting higher standards across the industry.”
Vivek Tiwary, Vice President and Head of Telecom Business at Tata Elxsi, added, “Based on my interactions with leaders in the telecom industry across the globe, Boost Mobile is considered a trailblazer with many ‘Firsts’ to its credit. xG-Force is an ecosystem that primarily aims at creating those solutions that we believe have not been created so far. I see a great synergy collaborating and helping Boost Mobile meet its vision.”
The lab has been established as part of an ecosystem in partnership with industry leaders, hyperscalers, and chip manufacturers, including RedHat (Private Cloud), AccuKnox (Cloud & Application Security), i2i systems (5G Core), and Rebaca (Test Tool). Tata Elxsi plans to expand these collaborations with additional global partners to further enhance the lab’s capabilities.
Rahul Jadhav, CTO and Co-founder of AccuKnox highlighted, “The xG-Force lab will enable rapid adoption of next-generation 5G technologies in a collaborative way while reducing OPEX by ensuring significant use-cases are tested in the lab.”
The xG-Force lab will focus on various key areas such as streaming media, private 5G networks, connected and electric vehicles, network charging stations, digital health, aerospace, and Industry 4.0 solutions for smart factories. Additionally, it will address critical challenges such as transportation safety and healthcare data security, while delivering the ultra-low latency essential for the future of interactive entertainment and other advanced applications.
