Bangalore: The second Thursday of October is celebrated worldwide as World Sight Day. Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore in collaboration with Essilor, Indian Railways and Young Indians (CII) organized an eye screening programme for the porters in the railway station on October 13, 2016.
“The theme of the World Sight Day is “Universal Eye Health”. The porters are an integral part of our railway system, preventive health care for them is our responsibility. On the event of World Sight Day, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore conducted a free screening test of 133 porters at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru railway station. 60% percent of them were having an eye test for the first time and over 56 percent were found to have eye defects.” shared, Dr. Kaushik Murali, President, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore.
We are happy to have partnered with the Indian Railways, Essilor and Young Indians in not only providing eye testing for the porters , but also for advocating our #SignForSight, initiative to promote eye donation, through a mime by students of the Sankara College of Optometry. Over 100 pledges were collected from passengers, railway staff and porters during the campaign.
