New Delhi: The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has successfully concluded the month-long Special Campaign 5.0, held from October 2 to 31, 2025, demonstrating a strong commitment to the Swachhata (cleanliness) mission, record management, and sustainable disposal of e-waste. The preparatory phase of the campaign ran from September 15–30, followed by the main implementation phase through October.
Focusing on clean workplaces, optimized space utilization, and e-waste disposal in compliance with the E-waste Management Rules 2022, DBT achieved outstanding results across all categories. A total of 113 cleanliness drives were conducted across DBT divisions, scientific units, and autonomous institutes — meeting 100% of the targets.
Under record management, 25,614 physical files and 20,133 e-files were reviewed, leading to the weeding out of over 9,000 physical files and closure of 6,000 e-files, achieving an impressive 89%–100% completion rate. The Department also freed 77,378 sq. ft. of office space through systematic cleaning and record management efforts. Additionally, the disposal of scrap and e-waste generated ₹31.28 lakh in revenue.
Beyond routine activities, DBT organized several awareness and engagement initiatives, including Waste to Artcompetitions, drawing contests, Shramdaan activities, Swachhata pledges, and waste segregation campaigns at its Secretariat and affiliated institutions.
The campaign’s progress was regularly reviewed by the Secretary and Joint Secretary (Administration), who also represented DBT at a panel discussion at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) on October 29, 2025, to share insights from the initiative.
Through sustained efforts and public engagement on social media platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram, DBT ensured wide participation and visibility for the campaign. With these achievements, the Department reaffirmed its commitment to embedding cleanliness, efficiency, and sustainability across all its offices and institutions.
