New Delhi: Aragen Life Sciences has become the first Indian CRDMO to receive approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. The UK-based SBTi validated Aragen’s sustainability targets for the near-term and its net-zero objectives, confirming they align with the framework set out in Criteria version 5.1.
Aragen has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by FY2050. In the near term, the company has pledged to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 50.4% by FY2033, using FY2023 as a baseline. For the long term, it has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% by FY2050.
Manni Kantipudi, CEO of Aragen Life Sciences, commented on the approval, “This validation by the SBTi is more than just a recognition of our efforts; it is a critical step forward in our sustainability journey. These targets underscore our dedication to innovation, collaboration, and transparency in a holistic manner, while ensuring sustainability measures are in place as we work with the 400+ customers globally. We are determined to make a meaningful and measurable impact in our fight against climate change.”
Shivaji Jadhav, Vice President and Head of EHS & Sustainability at Aragen, expressed similar sentiments, “This approval is an endorsement of the rigorous efforts we’ve put into our sustainability initiatives. It underscores our responsibility to our planet and reinforces our commitment to leading by example in the industry.”
The SBTi framework, which aligns with the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement, offers a scientifically supported approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By achieving this approval, Aragen Life Sciences positions itself as a leader in climate action within the life sciences sector, reaffirming its commitment to minimizing its carbon footprint and playing an active role in the global fight against climate change.
