New Delhi: Artemis Hospitals, in collaboration with Pfizer India, has launched a specialized Centre for Adult Vaccination. This pioneering initiative seeks to address the high mortality rates associated with vaccine-preventable diseases in adults by equipping healthcare professionals and the public with essential knowledge about the benefits of adult vaccinations.
The centre is located within the Artemis Hospital premises and will serve as a hub for information and vaccinations. A specialized team of doctors and counsellors will be available to assess patients’ vaccination needs, provide detailed information about each vaccine, and discuss potential side effects, ensuring that patients make informed decisions about their health.
Dr. Devlina Chakravarty, Managing Director of Artemis Hospitals, emphasized, “Vaccinations play a crucial role throughout an individual’s lifetime, benefiting vulnerable groups such as those with chronic diseases and the elderly. The new vaccination centre will serve as a hub of innovation, and education, and play a major role in preventive health, thereby decreasing the burden of diseases in the adult population.”
Dr. Santosh Taur, Director of Medical Affairs at Pfizer Vaccines, added, “Our collaboration with Artemis Hospital reinforces our dedication to preventive health by expanding access to adult vaccinations, ensuring robust protection against prevalent vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly respiratory infections.”
In India, vaccination efforts have traditionally focused on childhood immunizations, often overlooking the critical need for adult vaccines. The new centre at Artemis Hospitals aims to fill this gap by offering comprehensive information and resources on the importance of adult vaccination. This initiative is expected to play a significant role in improving the quality of life for adults across the country.
Adult vaccinations provide effective protection against diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, and hepatitis, which can lead to severe health complications.  However, adult vaccination in India faces challenges such as limited awareness and accessibility issues. Cultural misconceptions often lead to the underutilization of vaccines.
The Artemis-Pfizer Centre for Adult Vaccination aims to tackle these issues through public education and targeted outreach, providing crucial information and dispelling myths about vaccines. The centre will offer training and resources to healthcare providers, empowering them to educate and counsel patients effectively. This initiative is expected to increase vaccination rates, improve patient care, and contribute to a healthier population, reducing the burden on medical infrastructure and enhancing workforce productivity.
Dr. Arun Chowdary Kotaru, Consultant in Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at Artemis Hospitals, highlighted, “Vaccination is not just about protecting yourself; it’s a shield for the community as well. It is a small prick for a big impact on public health. Remember, every vaccinated individual contributes to a healthier world for everyone.”
