Dr Kanans Visvanats named Global Researcher of the Year 2024

Dr. Vishwanatth honored for pioneering work in oncology, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, driving innovations in cancer treatment and sustainability

New Delhi: Dr. Kanans Visvanats, FRSC, has been named the Global Researcher of the Year 2024 for his outstanding contributions to pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and environmental science.
Currently, the Director at the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Science, Dr. Vishwanatth was celebrated at the Leadership Conclave 2024 in Mumbai on May 18, 2024, which brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and academics.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Dr. Vishwanatth has made pivotal strides in oncology, developing new cancer therapeutics that offer more effective and targeted treatments with fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy. His research also focuses on identifying biomarkers for early cancer detection and understanding mechanisms of cancer resistance to existing therapies.
Beyond oncology, Dr. Vishwanatth’s work includes advancements in drug formulations, biotechnology, and environmental science. He has contributed to genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and the development of biopharmaceuticals, as well as research on pollution, waste management, and sustainable practices.
At the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Vishwanatth analyzes economic policies for sustainable growth and examines the impact of technological innovation on economic development. He advocates for integrating environmental sustainability into economic models.
Dr. Vishwanatth holds degrees in Petroleum Engineering, Business Management, and Business Administration. His numerous accolades include the Albert Schweitzer Medal for Science, the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Studies 2020, and the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Excellence Award for Medicine. He is also a Garwood Innovation Fellow at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and a Council Member at the Latvian Academy of Sciences.
With 15 world patents in anti-malarial and anti-cancer treatments from herbal extracts, Dr. Vishwanatth’s expertise spans licensing, business development, and pharmaceuticals. He has also founded a pharmaceutical company focused on Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and Dr. Ashley’s Herbals Limited, dedicated to Ayurveda medicinal plants. His contributions to research and industry continue to impact global health and sustainability.
