New Delhi: FootSecure has become the third facility in India to offer Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery (MIFAS). This advanced procedure employs small incisions, specialized instruments, and cutting-edge imaging technologies to treat foot and ankle conditions with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues.
FootSecure, founded in 2018 by Dr. Sanjay Sharma, has now introduced MIFAS to Karnataka following extensive training with GRECMIP, an esteemed international society focused on minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. Sharma emphasized, “Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery offers significant advantages over the traditional surgeries and is especially valuable for patients suffering from diabetes, who have a slower wound recovery rate. Just like laparoscopic surgery has made inroads in abdominal surgery, I think it is time advanced podiatric procedures are also made mainstream and accessible, and that is exactly what we at FootSecure aim to do. We also intend to hold a cadaveric workshop for Indian surgeons during our next PODOCON conference in May 2025.”
The rise in chronic conditions such as diabetes and arthritis, coupled with a growing interest in sports and an ageing population, has led to increased cases of foot and ankle complications. Given India’s high incidence of diabetes, diabetic foot conditions are becoming increasingly common in podiatric care.
MIFAS addresses a range of conditions, including bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, neuromas, Achilles tendonitis,  flatfoot deformities, forefoot pain, heel pain, soft tissue masses (e.g., ganglion cysts), tendon and ligament repairs. Its benefits include reduced scarring, faster recovery, lower risk of infection, minimal blood loss, and improved functional outcomes. The procedure also supports preventive measures for diabetic patients, offering significant advantages over traditional surgical methods.
The advantages of MIFAS are noteworthy. The procedure requires smaller incisions, which result in reduced scarring and less tissue damage, leading to faster recovery and less postoperative pain. Patients often experience minimal blood loss and a lower risk of infection, which reduces the need for antibiotics. The aesthetic benefits include smaller, less noticeable scars, while the procedure enhances mobility and functional outcomes with fewer complications.
FootSecure’s services extend beyond MIFAS, addressing over 300 foot and ankle conditions through a comprehensive approach that includes diagnosis, therapy, surgery, and rehabilitation. Their digital platforms, Wound360 and Foot360, support healthcare providers with diagnostic guidelines, AI-enabled tools, and tele-podiatry services, facilitating thorough foot health and wound care management.
Looking ahead, FootSecure plans to expand its impact by establishing India’s first dedicated podiatry hospital and launching a specialized line of therapeutic footwear by 2025.
