New Delhi: Fresenius Medical Care, the world’s leading provider of products and services for people with renal diseases, has successfully concluded its first Dialysis Technician Certification Training Programme in India.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with Epitome Kidney Urology Institute & Lions Hospital, New Delhi, under Fresenius Medical Care’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) initiative.
The one-day structured training programme represents an important step toward strengthening dialysis care delivery in India by addressing the growing need for formal, practice-oriented skill development for dialysis technicians—individuals who play a critical role in patient safety and the daily operation of dialysis units.
Designed to bridge existing skill gaps, the programme focused on real-world clinical application and best practices beyond conventional education. The curriculum covered key areas including infection control, dialysis adequacy, advanced dialysis therapies, alarm handling, and management of dialysis-related complications. More than 200 dialysis professionals participated, gaining practical insights that can be directly applied in routine clinical practice. As part of the programme, participants also visited Epitome Hospital’s dialysis unit to experience advanced infrastructure, including haemodiafiltration (HDF)-enabled machines, a medical-grade water treatment system, and digitised patient data reporting. As knowledge partner, Fresenius Medical Care India worked closely with Epitome Hospital’s clinical leadership to design and deliver the training.
Epitome Kidney Urology Institute & Lions Hospital was selected as a partner for the initiative due to its leadership in advanced dialysis care, including the use of HDF kidney replacement therapy, which is associated with improved patient outcomes. The hospital is also the first dialysis unit in India to fully digitise dialysis patient data through the Therapy Data Monitoring System (TDMS), enabling real-time monitoring and consistent application of best practices. The programme was led by Dr. Vijay Kher, Chairman, Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, and Dr. Ajay Kher, Medical Director & Nephrologist.
Commenting on the programme, Dr. Vijay Kher said, “We are proud to lead this structured training programme for dialysis professionals. It has been designed by healthcare professionals, for healthcare professionals, with a clear focus on advancing kidney care through evidence-based practice, shared knowledge, and hands-on learning.”
Dr. Ajay Kher added, “Our focus has always been on delivering comprehensive, patient-centric care. This programme is another step towards building a skilled dialysis workforce that can further enable patient-centric care and improve dialysis outcomes.”
Dr. Tarun Kaushik, Medical Director, Fresenius Medical Care India, said, “At Fresenius Medical Care, we believe that advancing clinical expertise is as critical as technological innovation. This collaboration allowed us to co-create a curriculum that is clinically relevant, practical, and future-ready, helping technicians deliver consistently high standards of dialysis care.”
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Mr. Bhaskar Guha, Managing Director, South Asia, Fresenius Medical Care, said, “This Centre of Excellence collaboration with Epitome Hospital reflects our commitment to improving access to better dialysis care. By empowering technicians with best practices in dialysis therapy, we are directly contributing to improved patient safety, operational efficiency, and better health outcomes, starting with a high-impact geography like Delhi.”
As part of its CoE initiatives, Fresenius Medical Care India partners with leading dialysis centres to deliver tailored training programmes for healthcare professionals. The successful completion of this first certification programme highlights the strong demand for structured, high-quality training and underscores the importance of continued investment in capability building to support the evolving needs of dialysis professionals and patients.
