New Delhi: Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Kengeri has introduced South India’s first 5G-enabled ambulance service in collaboration with Medulance. This initiative signifies a major leap forward in emergency medical response, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to deliver superior patient care.
In its initial phase, the service will deploy five 5G-enabled ambulances within the immediate vicinity of the hospital. The second phase will expand the fleet with five additional ambulances, extending coverage to neighboring districts, thereby bolstering emergency response capabilities throughout the region.
These 5G-enabled ambulances, equipped with high-speed connectivity provided by Reliance Jio, facilitate real-time audio and video communication. They also feature cameras and smart devices for high-definition footage transmission, coupled with Advanced Life Support (ALS) systems for critical medical interventions. The ambulances enable real-time streaming of patient health data to remote doctors and transmit vital signs to emergency room dashboards. Additionally, they include ambulance location tracking for efficient dispatch and navigation, as well as remote monitoring capabilities allowing doctors to guide paramedics.
The enhanced connectivity and real-time data relay significantly reduce response times to less than four minutes in corporate settings. Patients benefit from immediate clinical assessment and medical intervention during transit, supported by remote assistance from doctors. This use of the ‘Golden Hour’ and ‘Platinum 10 Minutes’ for critical care markedly improves survival rates in emergencies such as heart attacks and strokes.
Furthermore, these ambulances enhance healthcare access in rural and remote areas and facilitate seamless data sharing with hospitals to prepare for incoming patients. The higher bandwidth and ultra-low latency of the 5G network ensure efficient data transfer, while integration with corporate wellness programs helps reduce healthcare costs and improve employee health outcomes.
Pranav Bajaj, Co-founder and CEO of Medulance, highlighted, “Our 5G- enabled ambulances, in partnership with Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Kengeri, will set a new standard for patient care. With cutting-edge technology, we’re bridging the gap between emergency and treatment, ensuring timely and informed care.
