New Delhi: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Glenmark) has partnered with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL) to launch an initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting acceptance for individuals living with vitiligo, a skin disorder that affects pigmentation.
To combat misinformation and foster empathy, Glenmark and IADVL unveiled a series of postcards and a calendar featuring the winning artworks from their painting competition, “Empathy in Every Stroke,” held on World Vitiligo Day, June 25, 2024. This competition invited dermatologists from across the country to submit artworks that creatively depicted the journey of vitiligo patients, emphasizing the importance of understanding and treatment.
The initiative garnered over 150 entries, showcasing the talents and compassion of dermatologists nationwide. A distinguished panel of judges, including renowned artist and gold medallist from Sir JJ School of Arts, Uday Parkar, and contemporary Indian artist, Arpa Mukhopadhyay, meticulously reviewed the submissions. 22 winning paintings were selected, with 12 featured in the IADVL calendar for 2025 and 10 transformed into captivating postcards.
Alok Malik, President and Business Head of India Formulations at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd., expressed, “We are proud to support our collaboration again with the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL) in raising awareness for vitiligo. This initiative reflects our commitment to inclusivity and making a positive impact. Our painting competition inspired over 150+ entries from dermatologists now featured on postcards and a calendar. These cards symbolize our dedication to empathy, acceptance, and respect for those affected by vitiligo. We aim to challenge misconceptions and foster a more inclusive society, making a meaningful difference in the lives of vitiligo patients.”
Dr. Manjunath Shenoy, President of IADVL, highlighted, “India has the highest prevalence of vitiligo in the world, and patients often face stigmatization and social isolation. We believe in the power of collective efforts to create awareness and acceptance for the same. These postcards and calendars are small but impactful steps towards supporting vitiligo patients and promoting a more inclusive society.”
