New Delhi: The Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2024 kicked off with a renewed commitment to cleanliness and environmental sustainability, led by Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
In a ceremony held at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), Dr Pathak inaugurated the campaign by administering the Swachhta Pledge, underscoring the importance of fostering a clean and sustainable environment.
Senior officials from ICAR, including the Additional Secretary, Deputy Director Generals, and other dignitaries from DARE and ICAR, attended the event. Notably, the Swachhta Pledge was taken by representatives from all 113 research institutes and 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), with virtual participation showcasing the extensive reach of this initiative.
Running from September 17 to October 1, 2024, this year’s SHS campaign carries the theme “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” emphasizing the natural and cultural significance of cleanliness. The campaign also commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, adding further meaning to the efforts.
As part of the inaugural activities, a nationwide plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” was launched, encouraging communities to plant trees as a tribute to environmental sustainability. The drive is intended to inspire collective responsibility towards nature and to beautify public spaces. The initiative, which engaged local bodies across India, aims to enhance the country’s green cover and contribute to the ecological well-being of communities.
Swachhta Hi Seva’s campaign is not just about cleanliness, but about fostering environmental consciousness and community-driven efforts to improve the local landscape. The event demonstrated the dedication of DARE, ICAR, and associated organizations to work together to create cleaner, greener, and healthier surroundings.
