New Delhi: IMTECH Centre for Animal Resources and Experimentation (iCARE), CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) conducted a five-day Workshop on “Bio-methodology and Ethical Use of Laboratory Animals” from October 10-14, 2022, under the aegis of CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics including ethical and humane treatment of animals and their husbandry practices, handling, biosafety and occupational hazards. 35 participants from different academic and research institutes attended the workshop.
Dr. Neeraj Khatri, Head, iCARE, CSIR-IMTECH and the organizer of the workshop welcomed the participants and emphasized on the ethical and humane use of animals in research. Dr. Sanjeev Khosla, Director, CSIR-IMTECH gave the inaugural address and discussed the importance and contributions of animal research in improving human health. Prof. Sanjay Bhadada from PGIMER was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony and in his keynote address, highlighted the importance of collaborations between research institutes and clinicians so that research findings could be taken from bench to bedside for tackling various human diseases.
A detailed workshop manual about the ethical use of laboratory animals was also released on the occasion. The valedictory session was held on October 14, 2022. Prof. Bikash Medhi from PGIMER, Chief Guest of the function, delivered a talk on “Covid 19 & challenges for drug development with future prospects”. He emphasized on the need of trained manpower in research by exposing the young students to the best of the laboratories.
