MoFPI Minister Chirag Paswan chairs roundtable on future of food processing industry in India

Paswan discusses industry plans and partnerships for World Food India 2024, highlighting sector opportunities and government initiatives

New Delhi: Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, chaired a roundtable discussion in Mumbai with over 30 companies from the food and allied sectors.
The meeting focused on the companies’ future plans in India and the potential for partnerships with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) in anticipation of World Food India 2024, scheduled to take place from September 19-22 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
In his opening remarks, Paswan highlighted MoFPI’s unique position among stakeholders and emphasized the vast opportunities within the sector. He extended an invitation to all companies to participate in World Food India 2024, expressing his eagerness to address any issues the industry faces. He also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of all stakeholders – producers, processors, academia, startups, and innovators – towards achieving the vision of Atma Nirbharta and Viksit Bharat.
Minister Paswan also noted that the Global Food Regulators Summit, organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), will be held during World Food India from September 20-21.
Joint Secretary Ranjit Singh underscored the food processing sector’s critical role in the Indian economy. He attributed the sector’s milestones to the collective commitment of industry leaders, academic institutions, and government initiatives.
Industry participants expressed optimism about the Indian market, particularly the food processing sector. They praised the Government of India’s initiatives to improve the business environment, including the Production Linked Incentive Scheme and the flagship Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana by MoFPI. The companies also expressed gratitude for the previous edition of World Food India and confirmed their interest in participating in the upcoming event, committing to the sector’s growth and robust participation in World Food India 2024.
