New Delhi: Rajasthan is set to witness a significant improvement in healthcare accessibility with the expansion of Online Chikitsa Mitra (OCM), a telemedicine-driven rural health-tech start-up.
The company has announced its strategic move into the state, establishing e-clinics in key regions such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mount Abu, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer. This initiative is expected to address longstanding healthcare access challenges across Rajasthan’s rural and semi-urban areas.
The state has historically struggled with healthcare accessibility, as reflected in its 2019-20 health index score of 41.33, which lagged behind Kerala’s leading score of 82.20. With this expansion, OCM aims to provide expert healthcare to underserved communities, utilizing telemedicine to bridge the gap between rural residents and specialist doctors. The innovative model involves establishing e-clinics in local medical stores, where trained store owners facilitate teleconsultations via OCM’s digital platform. This eliminates the need for patients to travel over 50 kilometers to distant hospitals, ensuring that they receive timely and expert care closer to home.
Smriti Tandon, Co-founder of Online Chikitsa Mitra, stated, “Rajasthan, India’s largest state, faces urgent healthcare challenges which disproportionately impact women and children such as malnutrition, infant mortality, and anemia. We are committed to tackling these pressing issues head-on by expanding our services to provide affordable and accessible care. Our innovative model delivers specialist medical advice, follow-up care, and comprehensive treatment to the most underserved areas, greatly improving the health and well-being of the state’s most vulnerable communities.”
OCM’s expansion in Rajasthan is part of its larger mission to establish 100 new e-clinics across India. The start-up aims to democratize access to high-quality healthcare by offering cost-effective telemedicine services, starting as low as Rs. 50. Through its innovative approach, OCM is poised to make a lasting impact on healthcare accessibility in both urban and rural communities throughout Rajasthan.
