New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST) at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, highlighting India’s significant strides towards renewable energy and its role in addressing global climate challenges.
The three-day summit, featuring international delegates and industry leaders, honors the significant contributors to India’s achievement of over 200 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity, underscoring the nation’s progress in renewable energy.
In his address, PM Modi underlined the progress made by the Indian government in the first 100 days of its third term. These include the creation of 12 new industrial cities, approval for 8 high-speed road corridor projects, the launch of more than 15 semi-high-speed Vande Bharat trains, and the inception of a ₹1 trillion research fund to drive innovation.
Additionally, Modi announced various initiatives aimed at promoting e-mobility, high-performance biomanufacturing, and the Bio E3 policy. “In these 100 days, multiple decisions have been made to expand the nation’s physical and social infrastructure, positioning India to become the third-largest economy in the world,’ Modi remarked.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s commitment to a green future, noting that the country was the first G20 nation to achieve its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, nine years ahead of schedule. Modi reaffirmed India’s goals of producing 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and turning the green transition into a mass movement. He introduced the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme where the government installs rooftop solar setups for every household. The initiative not only makes households self-sufficient in energy but also generates employment.
According to the Prime Minister, “Every household will soon become a power producer,” with over 1.3 crore families already registered under the scheme and installations completed in more than 3.25 lakh homes. The scheme is expected to generate around 20 lakh jobs and contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions.
India’s diversity, capacity, and unique position make it the “best bet of the 21st century,” PM Modi said, citing global events hosted by India, including the Global Fintech Fest and International Solar Festival. He also highlighted Gujarat’s role in pioneering renewable energy policies, from the state’s early adoption of a solar policy to establishing one of the world’s first dedicated climate ministries.
PM Modi emphasized that India is building its future on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, nuclear, and hydro power, rather than relying on oil and gas. He outlined ongoing efforts to develop hydropower projects with an outlay of ₹12,000 crore and offshore wind energy schemes worth ₹7,000 crore.
Highlighting India’s efforts in the green transition, PM Modi also announced the launch of the Green Hydrogen Mission, worth approximately ₹20,000 crore. He also mentioned a significant Waste-to-Energy campaign, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing critical mineral challenges through a circular approach and supporting start-ups in developing advanced recycling technologies.
PM Modi stressed that the Indian government is actively formulating new policies to meet the growing demand for renewable energy and is committed to providing comprehensive support for this sector. He invited global investors to explore opportunities in India’s green transition, noting the country’s drive for complete Made in India solutions and the potential for substantial returns.
The RE-INVEST summit will feature a two-and-a-half-day conference, including a Chief Ministerial plenary and discussions on innovative financing, green hydrogen, and future energy solutions. Partner countries such as Germany, Australia, Denmark, and Norway, along with major Indian states, are participating.
PM Modi invited global investors to seize the opportunities presented by India’s energy transition, stating, “India is striving for complete Made in India solutions and creating possibilities for expansion and better returns.”
The Prime Minister also underscored India’s efforts to make its railways net zero by 2030 and achieve 20% ethanol blending in petrol by 2025. He touched on initiatives like water conservation through Amrit Sarovar projects and the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ campaign, urging citizens to join these sustainability efforts.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi, and chief ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa, among other dignitaries.
