New Delhi: In recognition of his pioneering research and outstanding achievement which revolutionized the nutraceutical industry, Dr Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman, Sami-Sabinsa Group, received a shield of honour from Mr Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India at the Assocham National Symposium on Nutraceuticals, Functional Food and Dietary Supplements held in New Delhi.

This award not only recognizes Dr Majeed’s outstanding contribution to research in nutraceuticals but also for his hard work to improve the public’s awareness and understanding of alternative medicine.

As per the company’s statement, Dr Majeed while combining elements of Ayurvedic traditions with modern science introduced Ayurveda to Americans. It’s been three decades since he has established the scientific basis of Ayurveda creditably in the West. Dr Majeed believed the “Make in India” concept since the nineties. A new exports industry of standardized natural extracts has been developed in India due to his persistent efforts.

Dr Majeed researched and scientifically validated the values of medicinal plants which are not mentioned in the Ayurvedic texts. For instance, Tetrahydrocurcuminoids (C3 Reduct®) is a product derived from turmeric. The novelty behind Tetrahydrocurcuminoids is that although it is from turmeric with several of its beneficial properties, it is without the characteristic yellow color. It can be used as a cosmeceutical for its potent skin brightening properties as well as a nutraceutical for its antioxidant potential. Curcumin C3 Complex®, Gugulipid®, BioPerine®, Citrin®, and Saberry® are some other innovative products which Sami markets globally.

On receiving the award, Dr Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman, Sami-Sabinsa Group remarked, “I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award. This gives me the inspiration to bring our society close to the significance of Ayurveda, an alternative to conventional medicine. I am glad that Indians have already garnered the spirit of Ayurveda and in the years to come I am sure our research will develop more quintessential medicines that would make our society a healthier abode for generations to come.”
