New Delhi: Pristyn Care, in collaboration with Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, has successfully conducted the world’s first live bariatric surgery employing the Apple Vision Pro.
Led by Dr Mohit Bhandari, a leading bariatric and robotic surgeon, the procedure combined a sleeve gastric bypass and a Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedure. This innovative use of augmented reality (AR) technology marks a significant advancement in surgical precision and medical innovation.
The surgery, performed on a 45-year-old patient weighing 155kg and suffering from obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure, lasted 40 minutes. The Apple Vision Pro provided Dr. Bhandari and his team with a highly immersive and interactive 3D environment, enabling visualization of complex anatomical structures with unparalleled clarity. This enhanced visualization facilitated precise execution of the surgical procedures, reducing risks and improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, Co-founder of Pristyn Care, stated, “The successful integration of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery marks a significant milestone in our journey towards revolutionising surgical procedures. We are proud to be at the forefront of this technological advancement, which promises to enhance precision, improve outcomes, and set new benchmarks in the healthcare industry,”
The historic surgery underscores the potential of augmented reality in advancing bariatric care and broader medical practices. “The successful use of Apple Vision Pro in these complex procedures opens up new possibilities in surgical precision and patient outcomes. We are proud to lead the way in integrating advanced AR technology into medical practice”, emphasized Dr. Bhandari.
