Dr Soumya Swaminathan appointed as Principal Advisor for National TB Elimination Programme

Former WHO Chief Scientist to provide technical guidance and strategic direction for India's TB eradication efforts

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Soumya Swaminathan as the Principal Advisor for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme on a pro bono basis. 
In her new role, Prof. Swaminathan will offer technical guidance on achieving the programme’s goals, recommend policy directions, and suggest necessary adjustments for optimal outcomes. Additionally, she will advise on research strategies and assist in forming expert groups composed of top global talent. She will also work with Union Health Ministry officials, state representatives, and development partners to evaluate the programme’s impact.
Prof. Swaminathan, a prominent figure in global health, previously served as the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization and the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
