New Delhi: Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) has won the National Award at the prestigious National Startup Awards 2022 as an Ecosystem Enabler from Startup India and DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
In a prize ceremony to mark the National Startup Day 2023 and Innovation Week 2023 in New Delhi on 16th January, C-CAMP CEO and Director, Dr. Taslimarif Saiyed received the award from Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Govt. of India and Leader of House in Rajya Sabha.
Accepting the award on behalf of C-CAMP team, Dr Saiyed said – “We are very proud to receive this recognition and thank Startup India and DPIIT for this honour. This win is a testament to C-CAMP’s decade long effort in building a strong bio-innovation ecosystem in India. India has emerged as one of the world’s largest and most dynamic startup ecosystems. C-CAMP looks to contribute to this phenomenal growth by nurturing more deep-science innovation and science-led entrepreneurship in the biosciences as a vehicle for both economic and societal impact. Our next aim is to help position India as the biotech innovation capital outside of the Global North.”
In the last decade, C-CAMP has positioned itself as India’s leading deep-science bio entrepreneurship ecosystem in India with several breakthrough innovations in healthcare, agriculture and environment. It has built a portfolio of 350+ startups and innovators across 34 states and UTs in India supported by funding, incubation and advancement programs. It has invested up to INR 80+ Cr in these startups of which close to 100 have raised up to INR 2000+ Cr in follow-on funding at a cumulative valuation of over INR 6000+ Cr.
C-CAMP is helping build this critical mass of world class deep science innovations from India with potential for national and global impact.
This is C-CAMP’s third National award after the National Award from Department of Science & Technology, GoI (May 2022) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt of India in 2017. The present award has been given by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Startup India as an ecosystem enabler in the incubator category.
Dr. Saiyed added – “This win is a win not just for the C-CAMP team but also the startups and innovators connected to us as our best torchbearers. It is also a moment of celebration for our national and international partners, well-wishers and friends whom we thank for their continuous support.”
C-CAMP is an initiative supported by the Department of Biotechnology Govt of India and other govt agencies, is also a founding member of the Bangalore Life Science Cluster comprising of National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (InStem) and Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS).
