HMD displays Cathy Safety IV Cannula in festival of innovation at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi:– The leading manufacturer of SMART (auto disable) syringes, Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices Ltd (HMD) has displayed Cathy Safety SIP Clip IV Cannula at Rashtrapati Bhawan to contribute in the Roundtable on innovations in Medical Science and Bio Technology on 9th March 2017 in the 3rd Festival Of Innovation (FOIN), 2017, a unique initiative of the office of the President of India.

The innovative Cathy safety IV cannula is designed to minimise risks associated with needle stick injuries and needs to be made obligatory in hospitals. Around 80% of all hospital staff can be saved from needle stick injuries with the use of Cathy Safety IV Cannula. The innovative invention has been sold in  more than 10 countries and expects to achieve the target of exporting it in more than 20 countries by the end of 2017. Around 1.5 million safety cannulas have been shipped to Scandinavia alone and have received a positive feedback.

HMD’s manufacturing plant of Safety IV Cannula was set up in 2015 at Ballabhgarh and is spread on an area of 5.5 acres and has the capacity to produce 36 million units of ‘Safety IV Cannula’ to meet the rising export demand to Europe, which is expected to be around over 50%.

The Festival of Innovation (FOIN) is a unique initiative of the office of the President of India to recognize, respect and reward grassroots innovations and foster a supportive ecosystem. Hosted in March at the President’s House, FOIN has become a national celebration of creativity and innovation at and for grassroots by way of conference and exhibition of select technologies.

Dr Soumya Swaminathan Director General ICMR ( Indian Council of Medical Research) while addressing the Global Roundtable on Inclusive Innovation has stressed the need for learning and sharing the global experience in designing, developing and delivering empathetic and inclusive innovations for the common good.
