ICMR NIN awards TruthIn for innovations in AI-powered data infrastructure for packaged foods

New Delhi: NatFirst has announced that its flagship consumer facing platform, TruthIn, was recognised as a “Promising Innovation” at the recently concluded INFUSE 2025 Innovation Summit, organised by the ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR–NIN).

The recognition by India’s apex nutrition research institution is a testament to years of development to build a reliable data infrastructure that standardises the nutritional values of packaged foods.

The recognition paves the way for TruthIn to work closely on policy level research with ICMR–NIN, building tech-enabled AI tools for researchers, regulators, public health experts, food and beverage ecosystem and innovators.

Operating at the intersection of tech, public health, and consumer empowerment, TruthIn has already indexed and created an AI enabled data infrastructure covering more than 55,000 products across 100 F&B categories, analysed 8,000 plus ingredients and 200 plus nutrients.

Dr. Aman Basheer Sheikh, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, TruthIn, stated that, “This is not merely a recognition for us. It’s a validation of a deep commitment. If every Indian family truly understands what lies inside their food, consumption behaviours would change, and so would the nation’s priorities towards healthier eating and high quality nutrition.”

Similar initiatives like Nutri-Score adopted across the EU have numerous scientific studies backing it as an effective tool for consumers to decipher the nutritional quality of food products. TruthIn has already garnered over 1.3 million downloads. With over 150,000 monthly active users, and 4 million keyword searches, food label data is collated and run through AI algorithms to extract and standardise nutrition data, map ingredients and health claims that are verified by qualified nutritionists.
