New Delhi: Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospitals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Intuitive, a global leader in minimally invasive care and robotic-assisted surgery (RAS).
The partnership will establish 25 new robotic surgery programs equipped with da Vinci robotic-assisted surgical systems across tier 2 and tier 3 cities in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana.
The Robotic Surgery Centre of Excellence, based at KIMS-PES Hospital in Bangalore, will provide comprehensive training in robotic surgeries across various specialties for medical professionals at all KIMS branches nationwide.
This initiative will deploy the da Vinci systems in key cities such as Nagpur, Nashik, and Thane in Maharashtra; Bengaluru in Karnataka; and Secunderabad, Begumpet, Kondapur, and Gachibowli in Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, cities like Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Rajahmundry, Ongole, Kurnool, Nellore, and Anantapur will benefit from the technology, while Kannur in Kerala is also set to receive the advanced system.
KIMS Hospitals is focused on improving access to cutting-edge healthcare, especially in underserved regions. The collaboration with Intuitive aims to ensure that advanced robotic surgery, known for its minimally invasive approach, becomes more widely available, regardless of geographic or economic barriers. Robotic-assisted surgeries offer numerous patient benefits, including reduced recovery times, fewer complications, and less pain.
Dr. Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Hospitals, expressed, “This collaboration with Intuitive signifies an important step in KIMS Hospitals’ commitment to expanding our capabilities and improving patient outcomes through minimally invasive care. By broadening access to advanced technologies like robotic-assisted surgery, we aim to improve care for patients across tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India. In addition, we plan to offer robotic-assisted surgical training to medical students in our associated colleges and institutes, further contributing to the future of healthcare in the region.
Gary S. Guthart, Chief Executive Officer of Intuitive, emphasized, “Intuitive is honored to expanding patient access to high quality, innovative minimally invasive care. Our collaboration aims to bring advanced robotic technologies to areas that may previously have lacked access, aligning with our mission to make high-quality surgical care accessible to a wider range of patients.”
Currently, India has over 170 da Vinci systems installed, with more than 850 surgeons trained in robotic-assisted procedures across specialties such as gynecology, urology, general surgery, and oncology. Globally, more than 14 million da Vinci procedures have been performed, supported by over 38,000 scientific articles that highlight the system’s safety, efficacy, and benefits for faster patient recovery.
As part of this collaboration, Intuitive India will provide extensive training, customer service, and support to surgeons and care teams at KIMS Hospitals, further solidifying the partnership’s commitment to advancing healthcare standards across India.
