New Delhi: The Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) has issued a strong condemnation of the brutal crime committed against a postgraduate resident doctor at R G Kar Medical College, Kolkata. The tragic incident, involving the rape and murder of a young medical professional, highlights severe concerns over the safety and security of healthcare workers in India.
In response to this devastating crime and the perceived inadequacies in the investigation, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide withdrawal of services by modern medicine doctors. The AMC has expressed full support for this protest and will join in solidarity with IMA.
The AMC has announced that its members will withdraw their services from 6 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, to 6 AM on Sunday, August 18, 2024, for 24 hours. Essential services and casualty wards will continue to operate during this period, but routine outpatient departments (OPDs) will be closed, and elective surgeries will be postponed.
This strike is intended to underscore the urgent need for improved safety measures for medical professionals and to demand justice for the victim. The AMC urges authorities to expedite the investigation and implement stricter security protocols to protect healthcare workers.
The AMC urges all its members to join the strike and stand united with their colleagues across the nation in this critical fight for justice and security for healthcare staff.
