New Delhi: The Medicity recently hosted the 14th Annual Conference of the Indian Brachytherapy Society (IBS), bringing together top brachytherapy experts, oncologists, and researchers from across India.
The conference, inaugurated by Dr Naresh Trehan, focused on the latest advancements and challenges in brachytherapy, a specialized form of radiation therapy.
The IBS conference featured an extensive program of lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. Key topics included new brachytherapy techniques, clinical outcomes, advances in radiation dosimetry and planning, and emerging trends in brachytherapy research. The event also emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary care in improving patient outcomes.
Dr Tejinder Kataria, Chairperson of Radiation Oncology & Cancer Center at Medanta, expressed, “We are honored to host the Indian Brachytherapy Society’s annual conference at Medanta. Brachytherapy plays a crucial role in the treatment of many cancers, and this conference provides an invaluable platform for healthcare professionals to share knowledge, collaborate, and improve patient care.”
Brachytherapy, which involves placing radioactive seeds or implants near tumors, is used to treat various cancers, including prostate, breast, cervical, and head and neck cancers. This targeted therapy offers significant benefits by minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
The conference attracted over 400 delegates from across India, with a faculty representing seven countries. During the event, Dr. Naresh Trehan was felicitated by the Indian Brachytherapy Society’s President and Secretary. He praised the organizing team for fostering scientific discussions on brachytherapy and highlighted Medanta’s development and patenting of an indigenous template for cervical cancer treatment.
