New Delhi: Justdial has reported a significant increase in consumer searches related to dengue and pest control during the ongoing monsoon season.
The latest data shows a 33% rise in queries for dengue testing and treatment services from April to June 2024, compared to the previous quarter. Additionally, the demand for doctors specializing in dengue fever treatment has surged by 20% over the same period.
India is currently facing a severe dengue outbreak, with a marked increase in cases across several states. Delhi has experienced nearly double the number of dengue cases compared to the same period last year, while Maharashtra and Karnataka have also reported troubling numbers. The monsoon season, known for creating ideal conditions for mosquito breeding, has exacerbated the situation.
This rise in dengue cases is mirrored by a dramatic increase in searches for mosquito-related products and services. Nationwide, searches for mosquito net dealers have surged by 64%, with Delhi showing an extraordinary 709% increase. Other cities have also seen substantial growth, including Pune (216%), Ahmedabad (160%), Bangalore (122%), Kolkata (96%), Mumbai (31%), and Hyderabad (27%).
The heightened concern over mosquitoes has driven a 24% increase in searches for pest control services across India. Metro cities have seen a 25% rise in demand, while non-metro areas have experienced a 24% growth. Delhi leads with a 97% increase, followed by Kolkata (68%), Ahmedabad (45%), Bangalore (19%), and Mumbai (13%).
In addition to mosquito control, there has been a notable rise in the demand for services targeting other pests. Searches for pest control services for lizards, honey bees, bed bugs, and snakes have increased by 183%, 90%, 44%, and 33%, respectively.
The surge in dengue cases underscores the need for preventive measures such as maintaining clean surroundings, using mosquito repellents and seeking timely medical attention. Public awareness and individual efforts play a crucial role in controlling the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
