New Delhi: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) organized a free cancer screening camp for the residents of the national capital at its Niti Bagh Centre.
The camp saw an overwhelming response from individuals who availed various screenings based on their medical history.  Oncologists at RGCIRC offered free consultations, besides undertaking screening procedures that included imaging, pap smears, and lab investigations.
The comprehensive screening program covered a spectrum of cancers, including breast, oral, and cervical for individuals based on their medical history. Certain individuals were also advised to undergo screenings for gastrointestinal (GI) and prostate cancers.
The World Health Organization’s GLOBOCAN estimates that close to 1.3 million individuals are diagnosed with cancer annually, with nearly 800 thousand succumbing to the disease in 2020 alone.
The event not only focused on early detection but also emphasized the importance of awareness and counseling. Oncologists and specialists at the Niti Bagh center also offered individual counselling that helped in addressing the concerns around the disease.
The free cancer screening camp underscores RGCIRC’s commitment to community welfare and its continued efforts in raising awareness and contributing to the fight against cancer.
