THIP highlights LGBTQIA+ health misinformation at Global Fact Conference in Sarajevo

New Delhi: The Healthy Indian Project (THIP) participated in the 11th Edition of Global Fact held in Sarajevo. Organized by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), the conference is renowned as the world’s largest gathering of fact-checkers, aiming to discuss strategies, share experiences, and foster collaboration in the fight against misinformation. THIP, an official signatory of IFCN, was represented by CEO Sudipta Sengupta and Editor Neelam Singh.
The event brought together fact-checkers, journalists, and professionals from 80 countries, culminating in the issuance of the ‘Sarajevo Statement,’ which emphasized a collective commitment to freedom of expression and access to information. THIP remains steadfast in promoting accurate health information and upholding high standards of fact-checking and health literacy.
During the conference, THIP CEO Sudipta Sengupta moderated a session on Regional Focus and Media Literacy. Additionally, Editor Neelam Singh participated in a panel discussion addressing misinformation related to the LGBTQIA+ community, featuring insights from experts from Poland, Croatia, and the USA. Singh highlighted THIP’s significant efforts to combat health misinformation impacting the LGBTQIA+ community in India, underscoring the increasing global challenges of misinformation targeted at women, children, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
“THIP is dedicated to tackling the health misinformation pandemic,” stated Sudipta Sengupta. “IFCN and Global Fact are significant platforms that help us come together to exchange knowledge and strategies and work towards our common goal of increasing health literacy. It is paramount that accurate and reliable health information be accessible to counter the overwhelming amount of viral misinformation.”
