Union Fishery Minister to launch Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojna

The 4th anniversary event will highlight new projects under PMMSY, release key guidelines, and introduce initiatives to boost India’s fisheries sector

New Delhi: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, will launch the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojna and release the Standard Operating Procedure on Production & Processing Clusters in the Fisheries Sector. The event marks the 4th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) and will be held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. 
Rajiv Ranjan Singh announced approved projects under PMMSY focused on boosting production, enhancing post-harvest infrastructure, and expanding value chains. The event will highlight national priority projects for 2024-25, and new initiatives including the release of booklets on Indigenous Species, notification of Centers of Excellence and Nucleus Breeding Centers, identification of climate-resilient coastal villages, and the launch of a digital portal for the fisheries sector.
The launch will be attended by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel and Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs George Kurian. Fisheries department representatives from various states and union territories, officials from the Department of Fisheries, National Fisheries Development Board, ICAR institutes, PMMSY beneficiaries, fishermen, fish farmers, entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders will also attend the event. as well as officials, fish farmers, and stakeholders across India. The event will be held in hybrid mode to accommodate participants both physically and virtually.
Since 2014, the government has driven significant transformation in India’s fisheries sector with a ₹38,572 crore investment under various schemes. Key initiatives include the Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries (₹5,000 crore) from 2015-2020, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (₹7,522 crore) since 2018, and the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (₹20,050 crore) from 2020-2025. These programs aim to enhance production, improve quality, boost exports, and support fishers and fish farmers. The newly launched Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojna (PM-MKSSY), a sub-scheme under PMMSY, focuses on similar goals with a ₹6,000 crore investment for 2024-25.
PMMSY, launched in 2020, has become a transformative program in India’s fisheries sector, addressing gaps in production, infrastructure, and technology. With the largest-ever investment of ₹20,050 crore in the sector, it supports inland fisheries, aquaculture, and marine fisheries to enhance food security. The program has enabled the development of modern fishing harbors, mechanized fishing vessels, and improved cold chains, while providing livelihood support, insurance, and financial assistance to fishermen.
The anniversary event will showcase PMMSY’s accomplishments, illustrating its role in revolutionizing the fisheries sector and improving the lives of millions of fishers and farmers across India.
