New Delhi: Dr. Habil Khorakiwala, Founder Chairman of Wockhardt, has been honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 10th Integrated Health & Wellbeing (IHW) Summit.
The summit, a leading platform focused on health advocacy, wellness, and holistic well-being, recognized Dr. Khorakiwala’s transformative contributions to the healthcare sector in India and globally.
The IHW Council praised Dr. Khorakiwala’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare accessibility, quality, and affordability. As the Founder Chairman of Wockhardt, his efforts have been instrumental in setting new industry benchmarks, particularly in the areas of patient care, innovation, and the integration of global standards. His remarkable career has had a profound impact, improving countless lives and serving as a model of excellence in the healthcare field.
Under Dr. Khorakiwala’s leadership, Wockhardt has focused on developing novel medicines for multi-drug-resistant infections, an area of urgent global need. Over the last 25 years, Wockhardt’s research initiatives have resulted in a portfolio of six novel antibiotics currently in various stages of clinical development and commercialization.
Among them is Zaynich (Zidebactam/Cefepime), a novel antibiotic targeting extreme drug-resistant Gram-negative infections. Zaynich is undergoing a global Phase 3 clinical trial and has already saved over 35 critically ill patients under compassionate use. Wockhardt’s antibiotic pipeline has garnered Qualified Infectious Disease Product status from the US FDA, highlighting the company’s contribution to addressing antibiotic resistance.
Dr. Khorakiwala’s impact extends beyond the healthcare sector. A former President of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry), he has played a crucial role in advancing India’s bilateral relations and contributing to nation-building efforts. His lifelong dedication to healthcare and public service has left an indelible mark on the global health landscape.
Dr. Habil Khorakiwala’s son, Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Executive Director of Wockhardt and CEO of Wockhardt Foundation, accepted the award on his behalf. The award was presented by former Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan at a ceremony held on 21 September 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in Deira, Dubai.
