Emcure partners with Sunsure Energy for major solar power initiative

Emcure signs 22.78 MWp solar deal, covering 67% of Pune plant’s power needs and cutting CO2 by 30,000 tons annually

New Delhi: Emcure Pharmaceuticals has announced a significant step in its sustainability journey by signing a 22.78 MWp DC Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sunsure Energy, a major renewable power producer in India.
This agreement, which includes Emcure’s subsidiary Gennova Biopharmaceuticals aims to provide approximately 36 million units of clean, renewable energy annually to their Pune plants.
Under this partnership, Emcure and Gennova will meet around 67% of their power requirements for these plants with green energy, effectively offsetting 29,765.71 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. This move underscores Emcure’s dedication to sustainable practices and reducing its environmental impact.
Emcure and Gennova have also signed a Shareholders Agreement to acquire a stake in Sunsure Solarpark Twelve Private Limited, enabling the purchase of solar power under a group captive scheme as per the Electricity Act, 2023.
With a presence in over 70 countries, Emcure Pharmaceuticals has long been recognized for its commitment to improving lives through innovative pharmaceutical solutions. This new agreement will see Sunsure Energy supplying power from its 150 MWp DC solar plant in Solapur, Maharashtra, further enhancing Emcure’s sustainability initiatives.

Emcure Pharmaceuticals has expressed its commitment to environmental sustainability, incorporating green initiatives and eco-friendly practices throughout its operations. Emcure also practices rainwater harvesting and solvent recycling. Its 13 manufacturing plants are equipped with Zero Liquid Discharge systems and Effluent Treatment Plants, ensuring 100% waste treatment.
