New Delhi to host 4th edition of Global Bio-India 2024 on 12-14 September

Being organized by the BIRAC and DBT, the largest biotech event in the country will be held at Hall No. 5, Pragati Maidan

New Delhi: Global Bio-India 2024, a mega international event for national and international biotech stakeholders is all set to be held on 12-14 September 2024 at Hall No. 5, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
A strategic initiative by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and its public sector unit, Biotechnology Industry Assistance Research Council (BIRAC), the event is aimed to propel and position India’s biotechnology sector into the global spotlight.
Global Bio-India 2024 will deliberate on the opportunities and key challenges in the areas of bio-manufacturing, capacity-building, clinical trials, drug discovery, regulation & policies creating global supply chains for achieving a growth-oriented road-map for the biotechnology sector in the country.
The three-day event is packed with 9 Technical Sessions, CEO Roundtable, multiple other sessions on various topics of importance that will run parallelly.
Technical Sessions and Policy dialogues on topics of National & Global Importance, Bio- Partnering, Startup Pavilion, B2B meetings and Mega Biotech Exhibition by Startups & SMEs, Biotech Large Companies, BioIncubators, Bio-Services,, are a few salient components of the event.
The event also aims to showcase and identify key biotechnological innovations, products, services, technologies from national and international companies, start-ups and research institutes, as well as foster collaboration and funding opportunities for research and development.

Speaking at the curtain raiser event held earlier on August 14, 2024 in New Delhi, Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the government’s priority in boosting the bioeconomy. “India’s bioeconomy has grown 13-fold over the last decade, from $10 billion in 2014 to over $130 billion in 2024, with a projection to reach $300 billion by 2030. India has climbed from 81st place in 2015 to 40th out of 132 economies in the Global Innovation Index.”
Dr Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology and Chairperson, BIRAC said, “The companies in the biotechnology sector have achieved a valuation of ₹75,000 crore over the past 10 years. It is one of the sunrise sectors, with nearly 28,000 proposals currently being evaluated for upscaling.”
In the run up to the event, several roadshows were organized across India during July and August 2024 to bring together the key stakeholders from the start-up ecosystem.
The focus of Global Bio-India 2024 event will extend to Bio-Enablers, including Biomanufacturing Hubs and Bio-Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hubs and other platforms that will facilitate biotransformation by providing access to infrastructure, scientific data, and advanced technologies such as AI and machine learning. The emphasis remains on biosafety, ethics, and inclusive growth as the sector looks to accelerate its entrepreneurial momentum.
At Global Bio-India 2024, high level business and technical delegations would be able to witness India’s growing Bio-Economy and growth trajectory supported through Government of India’s policies and commitment integrated with the private’ sector. This is expected to provide a boost to both “Make in India” and “Startup India” national missions for the biotech sector.
