New Delhi: The Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) hosted the second annual Onco Critical Care Conference, bringing together a diverse group of leading experts, intensivists, nurses, and healthcare professionals from the national capital and neighboring regions.
The conference aimed to address the unique challenges and gaps in onco critical care, with a focus on improving outcomes for cancer patients.
The event featured expert-led sessions and panel discussions designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals dedicated to critical care. The conference emphasized the necessity for specialized care units to manage the severe conditions often faced by cancer patients.
Key sessions and discussions at the conference covered topics such as the “AI Maturity Roadmap for Effective and Sustainable Application in Healthcare,” “CAR T Cell Therapy: Pearls and Pitfalls,” and “Approach to Infections in Stem Cell Transplant Recipients.” The conference also focused on the complexities of providing organ support to cancer patients and optimizing care based on individual needs and circumstances.
S. Negi, CEO of RGCIRC, highlighted the significance of the conference, stating, “Our commitment is to advance onco critical care by not only improving our clinical practices but also by fostering a collaborative environment for ongoing education and research. We are dedicated to ensuring that cancer patients receive the intensive care they need, when they need it, to improve their chances of recovery and quality of life.”
The conference’s theme aligned with the broader goal of improving patient outcomes while addressing the financial and emotional toll on cancer patients and their families. Dr. Parveen Kaur, Consultant & Head of MICU at RGCIRC and Organizing Chairperson of the conference noted, “Many cancer patients find themselves in the ICU due to complications from their disease or its treatment. The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness that cancer diagnosis is not a dead end. Intensive care is not just a reactive measure but an integral part of cancer care. Patients with cancer, irrespective of their stage, deserve the best possible intensive care.”
