New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a meeting in New Delhi with representatives from various farmer organizations, including the head of the Kisan Mahapanchayat, Rampal Singh. The discussion aimed to understand and address pressing issues faced by farmers, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, Chouhan acknowledged the importance of engaging with farmers to better grasp their challenges. “We discussed many meaningful issues, including concerns related to state and central government policies. We will consider them sincerely and seriously,” he stated, emphasizing his role as Agriculture Minister in promoting the welfare of farmers.
The Union Minister expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to connect with farmers, stating, “Serving them is like worshipping God for me.” He highlighted the Prime Minister’s farmer-friendly initiatives and noted the effectiveness of dialogue in identifying and addressing agricultural challenges.
Key topics discussed included the need for flexibility in the Krishi Vikas Yojana, ensuring that agricultural schemes are tailored to specific state needs. The farmers raised various concerns, particularly regarding the crop insurance scheme, which they feel requires further attention and improvement.
While addressing questions from the media, Chouhan clarified that participation in the crop insurance scheme should be voluntary for both loanee and non-loanee farmers. He noted that making it compulsory often leads to issues, stating, “Many times it has been seen that if it is not voluntary, then it is also brought under this scheme.”
Chouhan reassured the attendees that the government is committed to resolving these issues. “We will make every effort to ensure that the farmers move forward and the condition of the agriculture sector improves,” he said.
